The software imports data from the previous year's return to provide a default template for personal information and types and sources of income. As you receive a tax form you can navigate to the appropriate section, and then later go through the software's entire interview to make sure you did not miss any detail. Alternatively, you can save up all your tax forms and allow the interview to direct your hand to the form you need. The software makes it easy to efile and/or print returns and provides written instructions for filing by mail. An "accuracy review" checks your return for errors and spots entries that are worth double-checking. The software's Help function is adequate although not spectacular.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Biggest annoyance is need to lower my firewall to connect with their server. Seems that should be solvable. Been with program since around 2000, kind of locked in. Did need some specifics from prior years in 2000 - 2010 range and had lost the executable and load software in the computer evolutions since then. Their site did not have access to load software from that era. Spoke with helpful representative from them; able to eventual reconstruct all but a couple years.
It used to be an excellent tax software but something went wrong this year. My return was rejected twice by the IRS because of an e-filing issue with it. After first time they said they fixed it but it was rejected again after week. I'm really disappointed. Additionally, each time I resubmit my return it charges me for state return. I hope they fix it in third try.
