I've been using the H&R software for years for my personal and small business tax returns. I like it very much although there don't seem to be much if any usability improvements year-to-year. There are always a few little confusing areas. This year I could find no place to enter my form 1099-Q information. Electronic returns have become much easier.
Pros: Easy to prepare

Great for Federal with 5 free filings but cost for State is an add on. Should have an option to substitute one federal for one State.

H&R botched its e-filing interface with the IRS
on March 14, 2023

When I completed my taxes, I couldn't email because of an interface problem between H&R Block and the IRS. I waited for the update and refiled. After 10 days, my filing was rejected by the IRS because of an interface issue with H&R Block. This is pretty poor performance.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
