I am a retired US soldier with a small VA disability monthly disbursement. This is non taxable income but I was unable to locate that specifically in the HRB documents in the online 1040. Also, in the State/Local sales tax section it asks for non-taxable income. A reasonable request considering where it was requested but, again, no specific VA compensation mentioned nor referred to. I was finally able to get a yes answer from the VA website that the income was non taxable, but it took about two hours of being handed from one dept. to another and made the completion of my 1040 a longer task than necessary. Might I suggest that you include specific reference to VA disability pay in the Q&A segments of your online directions? Thanks!!
First & foremost, for the first time ever in using H&R Block for several years, the IRS rejected the efiled return. Why? Because of a bug in H&R Block efile software! Return was submitted 3/12 & I wasn't notified of rejection by H&R Block until 3/17, thereby delaying my refund an extra 5 days. Second & noticeably even more frustrating was the experience of doing CA return for the first time, since moving from FL to CA last year. H&R Block offers absolutely NO support in the software for determining how to enter values such as interest and dividends taxable in CA. It imports values from federal return & indicates they've been updated based on "California law" then expects you to figure out where the value (which is NOT a straight match to any one value in the federal return) came from in order to assess it for how much is taxable in CA. There's nowhere to click to determine how H&R Block came up with the value. This happened on several screens. I "think" I finally figured out what values made up H&R Block's numbers after spending a ridiculous amount of time with it. At this point, I'm afraid to submit my CA return. Third, referring back to the rejection of federal return, instructions are to update the program so that I can re-efile. However, I've been waiting 45 minutes for H&R Block Updater which gives me message "Waiting on the program to quit..." & isn't going anywhere. I tried closing the return, reopening & requesting update again but still waiting on program to quit. Doesn't look like I'll be using this software next year...
For 4 consecutive years I have not been able to e-file my federal return. Everything is verified, previous year AGI, assigned pin and everything else. After 4 years I can't rely on HRB to provide a product that will allow me to file electronically.
