Fairly quick, seems comprehensive, easy to go through the interview, or skip around through the forms, if you need to do that.
Has some quirks such as reporting the date/time of acceptance of the return by the IRS according to GMT, rather than your local time zone, but it doesn't tell you it's using GMT. Also, only asks about payments of withholding to date, and not about expected withholding in the rest of the next tax year, so if you don't put in the expected withholding it overestimates the amount of estimated tax. It also asks you about a state return items even though you might live in a state with no income tax. Does not, apparently, import a 1099 MISC from an institution.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
I've used this software for close to 10 years now and overall, have found it quite easy to use as it leads the user in a logical fashion through each of the sections of a tax return to cover all the necessary items. The only issue I have had, mostly every year, is the section on LLPs and the associated K-1 forms. The software is weak on instructions on how to input data, it tells you you have unsupported information input, but it doesn't explain exactly how to deal with it. A tutorial and associated software upgrades on this subject would be greatly appreciated to alleviate this situation. I rate your product good because there's always room for improvement.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Have been using block for twenty three years, including sub s corp returns, with great success. I now use deluxe because I rent a commercial building and have investments. Regretfully Block, like others, have been challenged with ever growing complexity of the tax code. I hold shares in a master limited partnership and their K1 is beyond the scope of Block software. I hope that next year Block can broaden their software capabilities.
I have been using this software for many years and have been very pleased with it. However I ran into an issue while I was checking over my 1040 form that I could not figure out how they came up with the number on line 16. It was a small difference probably due to dividend income I had not had in previous years but it bothered me that I could not verify the number. It would be nice if they had a "how was this value calculated" feature.
I will not be purchasing in the future--too bad as i've used this product for well over a decade. AGI from 2021 was correct and so was the pin, but the IRS keeps rejecting. Also, missing the coronavirus specific form and had to file on paper because of these reasons. The only reason to use is to e-file.
