Horribly Buggy Software - time find alternatives

I installed the software on one PC and loaded all of my tax information. The software got stuck in an update loop where it would continually ask to install updates but the updates would not actually install. Lack of updates prevented me from filing. I also could not uninstall the program and reinstall. I finally installed the software on a second PC just before filing and that worked. Very buggy software reminiscent of Windows programs from 20 years ago. Horrible customer experience - it took more time to deal with software issues than it did to load my tax information for filing.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used h&r block software for my taxes for years. It has always been easy to use and I have never had a problem with the IRS when filing this way. I have recommended the software to others and will continue to use it year after year.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast

Some glitches in this year's (2023) software. After fixing data entries (did you itemize last year?) it still continued to pop up on accuracy review. Also, I filled married filling jointly in 2022 and 2033, as I have for many years. This year I was asked if my husband filed a return in 2022. Somehow it let me by pass it so I could e-file. I hope these do not happen next year.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents

Hard to find answers to questions.

When grouping long/short term gains, no real answer to dates to use in this format??? Confusing

State return has errors every year

The day my state return was submitted the software said I had a refund of $2085. Today when I open the software to check status, the refund appears to be $456. When I open the state software it is as if I had never opened it and wants to start the whole interview process over. A similar thing happened last year.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Convoluted final check by software

Most of the software is easy to use. After completion of my input, the software goes though a final check to see if there are any missed items, e.g. failure to check a box. The first check identified two errors which I fixed. But it then identified two more items that needed fixing which I then fixed. None of the items required fixing a number; it all required checking a box or inputing an ID of a source. But when I went to finalize my return, it dramatically increased my tax owed. Upon review of what the software did, I found the faulty increase was on the gross income for my rental unit. This is an item that I input, not the software. Someone from H&R Block should correct this error.
