I was able to get the taxes done, hopefully correct. Software needs improvement. To get to check my state return, I had to go back to start from the screen asking me what States I wanted. I could not get to see the State forms itself. Then after several accuracy checks with zero corrections required, I added some entries, ran it again and it showed errors that my wife and I had to enter our DL#s and info. As I had already done that, I exited the program without saving my changes. Opened it again, added my new entries, ran the accurracy check again and this time did not get that error. I entered my part A, B and part D, a Medigap medical premiums and other eligible expenses in the Federal, but it appeared not to carry the cost of the Medigap policy and other medical expenses to the State. As I could not view the State forms, I couldn't be sure. On many screens, sometimes when I wanted a topic, the search icon was no longer at the top. When I reached the screen to file my return, it only said to print them and file. I had to use the search feature to be able to find how to file them electronically. I filed the return. Hopefully it was correct. Some of these issues may have been due to my unfamiliarity with the program.

Have used this program for many years and so did my father. Have always been happy with performance of the software. Recently they are pushing the online product over the downloadable software… but, is that secure? This year, eFile was buggy and their servers were down for many, many hours on April 14 and 15… very hard to forgive. Will try the competition next year.

The software did not handle gains and losses from sale of equities properly after importation from the Brokerage firm. I needed to complete that manually in order to correctly account for losses and to compute the correct tax liability. At the e-filing stage, the previous year's AGI value was completed automatically from last year's return and was not correct, resulting in rejection of both the Federal and state e-filing. I corrected that manually also. Software is confusing in many other aspects. For instance, indicating I needed to have an RMD from my retirement account ( not true). Also indicating a possible penalty for underpayment of taxes, but then if you due the calculations turn out no penalty is warranted. Because of errors and confusing interactions with the software, I am still not confident that my return is correct or that I didn't pay too much in taxes.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

Program did not like the W2 form that my large employer sent so it would not allow electronic filing with that W2. Same thing happened last year with a similar issue but different form. Wasted DAYS and never got it solved.
