It downloaded my previous year info fine. I had to scroll through the program several times to make sure it accounted for everything that I knew about. I always have problems with the foreign tax credit, which takes a lot of massaging to get it to show correctly. I am not sure the cost savings were worth the extra time.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It gets the job done. And I assume that's sufficient to get sales when considering the options. But the user interface feels like it could use work to make it more friendly: One example being that it would be nice if you could make text within the program larger for those who have trouble with smaller text.
While there are a large number of explanations within the program for certain terms and to elaborate on questions being asked, it still feels like there are plenty of items that could use improved direction and explanation.
Additionally, there are various times within the program with the software prepopulates data with no explanation of where the info came from. For items like this, it would be nice if you could simply hover over a question mark box or something and have a popup that indicates where the data came from.... mainly to alleviate any concern that the info may be wrong.

Another suggestion that I think would be nice to incorporate would be a history of changes to what you own or are to be refunded. Currently, the program does a good job of highlighting the most recent change (decrease or increase). It would be nice if there were an option next to this that displayed a change log. It could include details on the amount of change, when it happened, and what caused the specific change.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

Have been using H&R Block Tax Software for years. It is easy to follow, easy to use, eliminates the need for figuring out what forms and calculations are required. Where options can be considered, the software has clear explanations of those options so the user knows how to proceed. Also, appreciate the fact that before filing it scans the information and provides alerts as to any corrections required/suggested prior to filing so as to minimize rejections of the return by the IRS. Great to be able to file for free. Highly recommend. Will use no other. Never used the State return programs so can't comment on that.

Works fine for the most part, A few rough spots:
1099-R : when one withdraws from an IRA, the part of the interview which deals with the MA state portion of the interview is a bit opaque. I think it is kind of lame that it sends me to read a couple of IRS publications to sort out what the "total contributions taxed by MA" ect mean . I am paying good money for the software, exactly to avoid having to interpret IRS publications.
Similarly, stock sales coudl be a b it more clearly explained . It is fairly easy to get double-taxed on RSY-s, whihc where taxed one already as income at the time they matured, The software does not plug in the basis, not does it give any guidance or warning regarding the inportance of finding and filling the basis of any stock sales. This needs to be a bit more robust. As it is, it is just too easy to not fill in the basis, anbd get double taxed on these.

I purchased the software and paid for E-file but that didn’t happen. When I tried to E-file the system was down. I am so unhappy about my purchase that I won’t ever use the software again. Unfortunately I had to mail in my return because of this company couldn’t even keep the system working. I received a message that my return was rejected by the IRS after several attempts to send it and the message disappeared from my email immediately. That is bizarre and very disturbing. I want a refund for the purchase.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
