Tax software does a good job with basic needs. With a little more advanced needs, you need to understand the tax laws so that you can get the software to do what needs to be done. You can't blindly file a return that includes any items that are beyond a basic tax return.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare

It is getting later and later when all forms for the average tax payer are complete. I understand it is out of your control, but I would make it clearer for the user to know what forms that they are using that are not finalized. Yes, you can find it in the software but it took me several years to figure it out. Make it simple to see and understand.

I have used H&R Block for the past 10 years. It's easy to use, the program prompts for input as you go, and some financial institutions can download data directly to the program (very handy). E filing is great and free. You get your refund really quick; I mean sometimes in just a week.

Simple and easy to understand considering it's attached to the IRS. But it is getting way to pricey- many free sites now available. Think about giving long time users a big discount before you loose them to the free sites.

Doesn’t handle many of the codes on a K-1. I had an issue where it was treating a loss as a gain. I called support via chat. . Uploaded my return. They agreed it was a “software glitch “. Asked me to hold while they ran it up the line. After 45 minutes I realized they were gone. Never got it fixed so I did my own work around. Very disappointing . Good for easy returns .
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've enjoyed using the HR Block tax preparation software for many years with few issues or concerns. This year, frustrated by several items. It kept referring to the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), and very simply it should have noted by my age I want old enough to be subject to RMD, as I'm under 70 years of age. No matter what I did, it kept saying, are you taking your RMD! Also it made it terribly complex for the underpayment portion of calculating the penalty. As a retiree, between pension and social security I'm usually have an underpayment situation, but don't make it ridiculous to figure. Another item is it assumes with a 1099-NEC, I have a business - I don't.
Cons: Hard to prepare

The basic product is good however, when dealing with a lot of investments, stock trades, it’s a little difficult to get through it. When you import, you have to go through every single line item when you have ion excess of 700 it becomes very time-consuming.
