The H&R Block software did not allow for an override of the taxable amount of a retirement distribution similar to how the TaxSlayer software works. The result of this was a higher amount of taxable income and a lower refund in my case.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

I have used H&R Block software to to file my taxes for many years. I was surprised by the change in how I list medical expenses, but I am assuming that was a change at the Fed forms leve and not a change in the software. I will now save my receipts in a different manner so it is easier to fill in the diferent categories of medical expenses next year.

There seems to be more automatic fillings-in with the form, and I found this year's tax to be so much easier than previously. The program knew all the address information for my foreign pension income, for example, and I didn't have to put in coding which I didn't understand. This year's taxes were stress-free.
