I have relied on Block to make tax filing easier and relatively pain free. This despite the entire tax preparation industry lobbying to sustain their profits by intentionally keeping difficult processes in place, unlike most modern democracies.
This year the problems with getting Block to successfully submit to the IRS were BEYOND THE PALE. Yes, Block eventually made things right - but this software is supposed to do one thing, a stressful thing, and it is upposed to make that process easier. it failed at that task spectacularly. You don't get points for eventually making it better when the stress was embodied and the panic you caused was immediate.
Would I recommend this to a friend? I wouldn't even recommend it to an enemy.
The IRS would not accept the Federal return because they wanted a PIN that was sent by mail and I did not have it, but they did take the payment from the checking account with the online filing. Very strange to not accept the online return but still take the payment. I also sent a check with my mailed return that I hope the IRS doesn't cash. I'm sure that will be a problem if they do.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have used it many years and it wooks well. My only gripe is that I can't print page 1 and 2 of the 1940 without printing the 6 additional pages, even if there is nothing on those pages.
Rarely do I provide electronic feedback, but the server being down starting April 14th and extending to late afternoon on tax day was not acceptable. It's like a plumber installing your shiny new toilet, but telling you it might not flush until sewage overflows on the floor..
