I bought the program last fall. It has worked for tax preparation, but a few more tax planning features may be good.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

I have been using this app for more than 10 years now. I love the usability but would like to see some improvements on the explanations for certain items. For example, I recently completed a NJ-1040NR return that took too long to complete because I had to search for answers outside of the program.

Please add more information on retirement. Add different kind of retirement. For instance if you retire from a company or a State. There needs to be better questions for lay people on their status of retirement. Also, some employers do not take taxes out of wages. Some employers just give a 1099 form. Many people do not own businesses. This needs to be fixed. Better easier questions with examples need to be implemented to determine and fix the tax filers status. The questions need to be easier to understand. The AI assistant was useless; it needs improving.

I have used H&R for many years. This year not thrilled. Three areas will cause me to explore other options next year: Foreign tax payments, Underpayment Penalty Calculation, and greyscale use. One of the most complicated of the many too complicated IRS Forms is that for credit on Foreign Tax payments. Your software, recognizing that form needs to be filed to get the credit, tells you to open whole form and we will help...and then disappears. This is longstanding gripe. Ditto with figuring possible underpayment penalty via the annualized income method. H&R is missing in action again. More irritatingly having slugged through the various methods with NO help, settled on one, went to file and after filling everything out was told to let the IRS figure it their calculation MIGHT be smaller. Really irritating after almost a day's worth of work. Lastly, a showstopper is that your screen displays and filled in/printed forms display and print IRS Forms in dark print and the actual entries into the forms in greyscale or what appears to be grayscale. Looking over past returns, this is a constant. For those with vision problems this makes both filling out and checking the forms when competed very difficult. While I have used H&R for many years, I will be checking with friends who use different software to see if they have the same issues.

Cons: Hard to prepare

I have been using H&R Block software for a number of years and it gets easier to use each year. The previous information is easily imported and there is a lot of flexibility in using the interview mode, combined with making corrections directly on the forms.
