In this market my impression is that most tax software will maximize your return based on your input. With the first year's input, H&R Block becomes very easy to use year to year. I track its calculation in Excel just to ensure I understand the tax computations and its results. There have been times where the tax computations are so complicated I end up verifying results by reverse engineering the Blocks results (AMT, for instance). In the end, you're confident everything is correct and you know why.

First time use. Worked okay but missed a deduction

Brought this prior to tax season. Never got an indication my previous return (Turbotax) got imported but it did work. Missed a deduction on one of my 1099R forms. Also did not carry my 1099R forms into my state (Colorado) return which required me to make copies and mail my 1099R forms to the state tax office. In addition I had problems printing on my Mac computer. Really bad printout.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents
