Everything is good about the H&R Block software except one thing. When entering 1099 info, it won't let me enter the payee state without overriding. Otherwise, good.
I have used HRBlock for several years, now using Deluxe though I used the premium in the past when spouse was self employed. Results seem to be good. No contact from IRS, generally. Embedded Help is useful, but not always specific to my situation. The included call support helps bridge that gap. Primary irritation is the updates that trickle in deep into the tax preparation cycle. It is not obvious if the (pending) update will impact my return. In some cases, I have the "interview not complete, update pending" message in areas which could impact my return. If I owe money, I am OK waiting closer to 15 April, so this is a minor problem. If I will receive a refund, I have to decide whether to proceed at risk, or await the updated interview software. There is typically no ECD provided by HRBlock for the update, though April 15 is a drop dead date, I suppose.
I love that it pulls info from last year so that I don't have to re-enter all of the basics. Mostly easy to follow directions and/or explanations. I did run into a couple of questions that took time to research at IRS website. Always questionable as to when and how to exit; no clear instructions for this.
I like this software for doing my taxes. It’s easy and walks you through the process. Also on these reviews you need to get rid of the requirement for a nickname. I’ve put 5 names in (and I don’t use nicknames) and they are all used so I have to keep putting a different one in until it works. Not good!
