A penalty waiver was requested via the software for underpayment of taxes owed due to spouse's midyear retirement. It appeared that the waiver would go through and that there would be no penalty since retirement from employment appeared to be acceptable as a reason for underpayment of taxes during part of the year. We received a letter from the IRS stating that we did in fact owe a penalty.

I am usually pleased with the ease of use and have used this product for years. However this year's filing did not go as planned. While two out of three of the returns went through electronically, one did not. The message was try again later. I ended up printing and mailing out the return.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
