H R Block is a great tax program. It asks most of the tax questions you need for your normal person. It gives you the option to upgrade if you feel you need to. Only bad feature is that it charges to file state taxes. If it gets rejected, you have to pay the state fee each time. Only charges you one. Other state filing fees are refunded.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming

Poorly designed questionnaire. I don't know if I am getting the maximum refund, so am unable to assess. The program was easy enough to use. I am annoyed that I have to pay extra to file my state return, while the federal return is free.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents

I have been using H&R Block Deluxe + State for seven years now and have been very happy with it. It is easy to use, stop and store, and come back to it without any hiccups. Even when I have done an extension because some tax needed documents had not arrived before the filing deadline, going back and finishing and filing my return several months later was no problem. Same with state filing.
Pros: Easy to prepare

Amendment Nightmare

It took a couple hours to figure out how to file an amended return. The instructions were not clear and half the time or more I ended up starting in the middle instead of the beginning.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very hard getting work done with windfall income and mistaken RMD data entry into my spreadsheet. I probably would have failed without Block's Deluxe SW.
I forgot some valuable features until part way through the process because I had to use a professional tax preparer last year who did things differently. I'm happy that I remembered when I did because complex returns benefit from internal data storage in case of IRS review.

HR Block is cheaper than TurboTax and almost as good. The user interface hasn't had an upgrade in years, and the help is little more than references to IRS forms. It's fine if you understand taxes in general. You get some Federal efiles for free, but the price for the state efile is way too high.

Easy to use moves data points from past year

Been using H&R for past few years very satisfied with software carries over past filing points making it easy to update or delete items. It moves data over to state filing program making it easy file.
