Good features at a reasonable cost.

Though this 2023 tax program looks to have a programming/development error for "in kind donations" and Form 8283 inputs from the interview process, I generally like this software and have used it for numbers of years. The 2023 problem causes an "accuracy" error from an in-kind donation that exceeds $500. The error does not cause the Accuracy Check to itemize it, but only focuses when I attempted to E-File. An additional error in Form 8283 occurred when both "property identif" created a code and three related blocks were checked, causing an IRS rejection. I worked with Customer Service staff with 3 related contacts and am still awaiting findings from the development team. I ended up removing the errors by consolidating donations and splitting the $500 donation, so that the "Copy 3" of Form 8283 had no data. It still, however, had the checked boxes and property identification even without any data on Copy 3. I then deleted Copy 3 and then was able to successfully file with the IRS.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

Crashes and duplicate charges on e-file

I generally like the this tax software package. This year however, the software has been pretty buggy. Crashes about every second page of data entry. And when I tried to e-file, it charged me for a State e-file, crashed, and required me to pay again before completing the e-file.

Ben using Block since switching from TurboTax about15 years ago due to a network SNAFU at the filing deadline, and zero support from Intuit. Block has a good product overall, with good in-application pointers. In the years I’ve used it there have bern a couple of software glitches, always resolved by Block’s excellent tech support. I have a moderately complex return snd use the Deluxe version.

I've used H&R Block software for several years and have found it dependable. That is, its reminders, recommendations, and calculations have worked in the end.. But, to get there, one must labor through unimaginative, dense, terse, and unfriendly verbiage. The "H&R Block Deluxe" software is desperately in need of a remake at every level.
