I am very disappointed that the state (Mass.) does not do the energy credit form. It wasn't clear that this form was not included until I had completed the state application.

Cons: Time consuming

Poor interface, nonworking features, restarts rand

I purchased H&R Block tax program, basically an overpackaged key. Strike 1: Still needed to download the software. I prefer a CD. Strike 2: The interface is poor compared to competition. Most fields have no explanation. There really is no leading the user. Strike 3: This is the most important strike. It would randomly go back to the beginning requiring me to go through everything again and again. In addition, it appeared not to understand ingested documents like W-2s, so they had to be filled out by hand. Similar, 1099-INT the list of financial institutions was limited.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have generally been satisfied with the H & R Block software, but noticed an issue this year. I had a form (something like a 1099-NEC if I recall) that I wasn't sure where to put. A place came up about extra income and I put the amount there (which increased taxes due), but then a place with the form name came up, so I put the amount there (which increased taxes due again). When I went back through to try to take the first listing out, I unchecked the box, but it didn't clear the dollar amount. I had to look for how to take this back out, since it didn't automatically clear out the listing when I unchecked the box. If I hadn't been watching, I would have had to pay the tax amount twice.
I also noticed something with my mortgage statements. My mortgage was transferred to a different provider part way through the year. It looked like there wasn't a way to specify the amount due carried over from one lender to another...so it showed my "combined" amount owed due, rather than being one amount that carried over from one lender to the new lender.
