The process for Accuracy Check on a 2024 Federal return has a bug. It identified an item from my prior year (2023) return worksheet that needed a value for a deduction taken on line 16. The entered number was "0". Since I had taken the Standard Deduction in 2023 the number should have been zero and there was no line 16 that had anything to do with deductions. It would not let me fix the error or ignore the error but resolved itself when I did the e-file. Second, the Question/Investigation process for California State returns requires that I have knowledge of the tax law for California in order to answer the questions. What good is the software if I need that level of knowledge in order to use it?

I was pleasantly surprised that switching to H&R from Turbo allowed me to transfer last year's filing to easily fill in almost all the Fed and State data. My former tax software provider decided to no longer provide compatible software for my Mac Desktop and only provided software for laptops using Mac Ventura software. Everything was simple and completed my tax returns in record time. Only had one difficulty with the State tax form which I resolved after carefully reading and interpreting the review data fault.
