I was not able to file my state return electronically because the Federal Schedule A needed to be included with my state return but the H&R Block software did not include it. I ended up having to mail a paper state return in so that I could include the necessary Federal Schedule A.

The navigation through the different sections on self employment (on the desktop program) are absolutely awful. It skips around like crazy, and a back button will not always take you to the last screen. It is infuriating to use this software for self employment taxes.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

For the last 2 years now the HR Block software has made an error in my state tax return. It apparently cannot handle out of state income and credits. My state refund as calculated by the HR Block software has been wrong, too high. The state has had to re-calculate and lower my refund each time. I have worked out of state as a W-2 contractor and gotten refunds from the out of state income, but my in-state calculations by the software were in error. I am likely to use other software for my 2025 taxes.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
