This year I tried using the IRS Free File but the software available there doesn't account for all forms such as form 8606. Do yourself a favor and use comprehensive software. Taxes are worrisome enough without wondering if your submission is accurate and complete. H&R software works great and is much more explanatory than other less well-known brands.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
