I had to call twice because the software was not working right. One time the state abbreviation wasn't filled in from the interview soft accuracy check failed. In the other the recipient id wasn't brought in from interview and I had to retype each 1099 to get the field filled. Errors showed after accuracy review at the efile step. It wasted hours of my time.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've used H&R Block for years. I was a professional accountant, and it has provided me with the easiest and most accurate way to file my taxes and project my budget forward.
Pros: Easy to prepare

This is my 5th year with HR Block and I'm essentially pleased with it. I'm disappointed that the price continues to rise. Please don't let this software become unreasonably expensive like TaxAct and TurboTax has.
Pros: Easy to prepare

Be careful when using the state program! For my state, CA, social security income and home mortgage interest are treated differently from the federal government. I entered all of the information into the federal program, following the prompts. When I did my state return, the H&R Block program automatically deducted the social security income to minimize my required tax. However, the program completely ignored a similar adjustment that it needed to make regarding home mortgage interest. In order to deduct home mortgage interest on your state return, you have to find a checkbox buried in the middle of a long list of possible deductions. I didn't know to look for this last year and lost over $1200 because I didn't check that box and re-enter the information that I had already provided for my federal return. I wasn't looking for it because I had no reason to believe that the program wouldn't automatically apply the correct deduction, as that is what it did for social security income.
Pros: Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
