I have been using HR Block software for many years. Instructions can be confusing, especially related to investment income and multistate income. HR Block software is much easier to use than a paper 1040 form.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare

I am pleased with the ease with which I could complete my Federal and this two state returns. I am a Maryland resident and needed to also file a non resident Virginia return. The reason for the rating of 3 instead of higher is that the software would not allow me to file either state return electronically. With Maryland it was the fact that my return needed form 502CR because of the Virginia tax credit but I also had a Community Investment Credit showing on 502 CR which the software said necessitated filing a paper return. For Virginia the problem the fact that I had credit that was accounted for on Schedule CR which the software said necessitated filing a paper return.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've been doing my taxes for many years, using another tax program, So wanting to try a different program, sadly, on my part, thinking/assuming that all of todays tax programs would not be confusing but would be more helpful instead of having folks guessing on what the program is trying to say. When the "need to correct/fix" window pops up, there should be a direct link to the spot where the issue lies. And NOT having to wade through every past step, hunting down the issue! I do NOT have the time to retrace EVERY single step back to the issue. An link/tab should take you to THE exact spot needing to be fixed. Then to top it off, to have the program play ping-pong with you, when you click on the tab.... going back and forth from the correct/fix window to explanation page! NO, no more, it was stupid on my part!!!!
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
