I found one very annoying problem with the New York state program. This has caused the state to reject my return until it was revised. This has been there for years but I found no way to feed it back to you.
The problem has to do with mailing address and permanent address in New York. The program tells us not to fill the permenent address if it's the same as the mailing address. But in the tax return, the space is left blank. So the state reject it until I correct it.

Federal return eFiled, MD return rejected w/o expl

Everything went along fine until it was time to eFile. I chose to eFile both the federal and the state at the same time. The federal return went through and was accepted by the IRS. The state return (MD) was rejected. I tried to figure out what was wrong and resubmitted the state, but it was rejected again. There is very little hep provided in the program beyond "try to figure out the problem."

I've used Block's tax software for about six years straight, and mostly I've been satisfied. This time, I don't know how, it may have doubled the amount of "outside income" I had for the final tax report. I have no idea how that happened or where it came from, even though I went through the figures twice. Most of it was okay, though.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents
