Getting harder to do it myself

I've been using this product for years. This year somehow, I got the wrong state with my purchase, so I had to buy the correct state. Also had software telling me I had to fill out the foreign tax information on a form for a local credit unions interest income form. And with hybrid work schedules between 2 states, it is hard to figure out what to do. Swings in fund to owing make me fear I may have filled this out wrong and be subject to penalties. I guess a couple advantages are; 1. it reads previous years return, lots of info I do not have to fill in, 2. can efile for free, and 3. Son is able to do his taxes on it also. Have not used or tried another way to file in years. Really not sure if it's easier or less expensive than others would be. Price has gone up a lot this year, even without buying the extra state.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

I am very disappointed that I cannot e-file my state taxes after paying more for the program that includes one state and five federal returns. Also, charging for e-filing state (even if I could) is ridiculous. Not sure I will use this program again.

I have used H&R Block Tax software for a few years. This year (2024) it was so confusing I will have to reconsider using it next year.
After finishing all data entries, I went through final review and it found errors that prevented e-filing. One error: It displayed the EIC form with the error “”,” is not a valid entry” that I had no idea where in the form it was or how to correct it. Printing the form on paper and going through all entries did not reveal anything. I went back to the form in the software, tinkling with many different entries including blank entries somehow miraculously cleared the error.
I was frustrated that I didn’t manually enter data on the form; the software generated it from the data I provided through Q&A and I had to spend a lot of time groping in the dark to fix the error.
I think spending a little more money on Turbo Tax next year will likely save me a lot of time and frustration.

VA software needs to take consideration that military retirement with no VA withholding still needs the 1099R attached to the VA return if the income is non-taxable/subtracted on the 760.
