Great If You Can Find It; Deceased Spouse Problem

First, it appears that Block is trying to push users to switch to its online software. They're not sending past users like me reminders to download the desktop program, and their web site makes it very difficult to find the downloadable software. Personally, I don't want to do my taxes "in the cloud," as that reduces my control over my personal data.
Once I finally found the download link the filing process proceeded as usual -- fast and easy -- with one exception. When I'd completed filling out all the forms, the program transmitted the federal return to the IRS electronically, just like it's supposed to do, but told me it couldn't send the state return, because my wife had died last year, and it wasn't capable of filing a state return for a deceased filer. If you have lost a spouse, be aware of this shortcoming.

Federal plus state is relatively intuitive and easy to use. It handles all aspects of my investments except it will not totally complete K-1 statements. I will not buy a more expensive version simply to complete K-1.

I'm not really impressed with the product, while it does update the rules quickly, it does a poor job on data linking inside the app, as well as form and worksheet data linking considering how long they have been doing the federal side. As for the state version, i use PA, which is close to the federal documentation and has a huge number of web links available, also less than expected functionality.

Purchased & downloaded online. I have used H&R Block software for several years now... It's pretty easy to use since I've used it for a while... Basically just fill in the #'s from your tax forms into proper locations... That's pretty much it... Then finalize it, then transmit data to IRS.. Refund only took about a week or so...I do the state & mail it in... My preference... But it all works out..
