Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

I'm one of the old-timers. I've used this software for about as long as there has been the option to transmit returns / file on-line. If you have any life changes or finances that are more than can be covered by a free solution (think 1040EZ) then this is the best bet for the price and coverage. The whole package as it were. They have never let me down.

I purchased online and was not able to use my discount/free offer. Not sure why? Could be that i had to activate/use from email. It was given last year to use this year but I probably should have spoken with someone as to how to use/activate. Can I try again for next year? Lat me know. Thanks. I've used you guys for over 20 years when it was originally Kiplinger Tax Cut. Still, in my humble opinion, the beat option out there with integration from other programs if so needed/desired.

I have used this software for years, but it has always giving me a bit of difficulty since my income is reported on K-1's. I have trouble getting the data correctly posted to the states and it tells me to look at K-1 instructions which are no clearer in providing me with the proper place to put some of the money.
Cons: Time consuming

Lacked any mention of hurricane disaster relief

Great step-by-step procedures for walking me through my taxes. Program did not import all info from previous tax year. Program did not address hurricane/disaster relief. I’ll now need to amend previously filed tax years to recover losses. That’s an important feature for folks in California (fires) and Florida/Gulf Coast (hurricanes)!

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents

Overall, good software, very poor help function

Normally, my wife does the taxes, but she is sick so I did them. I found this package itself good, but encountered two technical issues. The first one (dealing with brokerage downloads) was easy to deal with. The second, triggered in adjustments and much later than the first (but probably as a result of the first issue) was in the IRA RMD with QCD, where the software insisted in going where it should not have gone. It took my wife (an accountant) looking at the IRS form, to figure out how to force an override in the software. On both issues, I found the 'Help' button totally unhelpful. Next year, if I do the taxes, I will know how to avoid these two quagmires, but I strongly suggest H&RB improve the Help feature.
