I've used H&R Block software for the last 4 years after previously using Turbo Tax. I like the ease of use and the prompting of questions that help ensure I'm completing my relatively easy return accurately. Carrying forward prior year's returns reduces time and makes this process a bit easier as well. Electronic filing is also easy and seamless.
So, why not 5 stars? Every time I open a prior year's return, it goes through the "checking for updates" process and whether or not there are any, it forces me to "save a copy of return". If you click no, meaning at least to me, that I don't want a new copy but rather just retain my originally completed return, it will delete that previous and possibly your only copy. This just doesn't make sense. If you prefer to keep copies electronically and don't download PDF versions, you can somewhat easily delete your only copy of a previous return. This happened to me once before and perhaps they have fixed it, but I simply want to retain my previous copy with the original saved date, not a new one any time I look at an older return.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

Have been using this program for years and it is still so easy to use. Even with having a few new things to report the worst thing was finding all my paperwork so I could enter it. Software even reminded me of things I had forgotten about that I had last year and did again this year.

Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

Good product, but high fee to e-file for state tax

I have used H&R Block tax software for years. It's mostly intuitive and does a very good job guiding through the process. However, the added cost to e-file for state taxes is onerous. Every year, I end up printing out my state taxes and submitting them by snail mail. Should be included when purchasing the state software update.
