I bought this thinking it was like Turbotax. But after finishing the state tax (Michigan) I discovered it did not
include city taxes, which I definitely needed for Battle Creek taxes. So I will not be buying again, as I still have
to go get the other because non-resident city taxes are complicated!

I found this year’s program less user friendly. It was harder to view how portions related to the whole return. This was especially true for the automatic download from my brokerage. The program jumped to the final without worksheets or clearly stating what was done.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare

The software did what was expected. However, whenever I needed to look up certain "how to" items I found the help function wanting. For example, I spent nearly ten minutes searching for estimated tax payments using Form 1040-ES that creates stubs to be sent in with quarterly payments. After finding nothing, I gave up and googled this and found the Federal EFTPS tool. In the past, Turbotax would create the stubs for me which made things easy. H&R Block Filing software is not quite as good.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

H&RB worked very well for the federal return, however the part of the CA state return software that dealt with adjustments to the CA return for capital gains/losses did not work correctly. On reading the CA 540 instructions, I understood it that CA does not recognize short and long term capital losses, therefore adjustments from the fed capital gains losses was necessary. According to the H&RB CA state instructions I transferred the fed info into the software and worked thru the panels. The H&RB software inflated the cost basis (based on ??) resulting in a 60,000 loss. NO WAY! I REVERSED the whole thing and went with no adjustments to capital gains. I was doing this the weekend of 4/11 and could not mess with this any longer. I had to file. I had wash sale losses on the fed return that I could not deduct on this years fed return. Either your software is not sufficient for my situation or the CA instructions were not programmed correctly in your CA stat software..
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to prepare

I had a problem with your program last year that caused me all types of headaches with my credit card agency including issuing new cards. Your code was designed to create pending charges on my acccount even if the transfer of the tax return failed. End users like myself will natually retry multiple times and that is what I did leaving many pending charges on my account i wanted removed. You offerred a 50% discount this year which I took advantage of and did not have any problems e-filing this year.
