This package has grown complicated and unintuitive

The software has become more complicated and less intuitive over time. It led me into several blind alleys of questions that did not relate to my return. The twenty dollar additional charge to e-file the state return when the package is advertised as federal and state is just rent seeking. After ten years of using this software, I will probably switch next year.

After entering all my data it became evident that my HRB file was corrupted. The required many hours of of reentry after a new program was necessary.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents

Print Form pages do not load access print button

After several years of suggestions, I have asked that the print forms pages be formatted to fit on laptop so you can access the print button. It has still not been fixed.
Cons: Hard to prepare

I appreciate that the program format tends to stay the same from year to year. Usually I only need to download last year's return, and go to the sections that I know I need to complete. The "go to form" is a very helpful tool. Everything works well until the part where the return is filed. That's a bit confusing sometimes. Also, there is a screen that gives a great review of income streams, tax liability, and what needs to be paid, but it can't be printed, nor can you return to it using the "go to form" command. So I have to copy it on paper which seems to work against the reason we use the computer to complete our taxes. Otherwise, I rely on HR Bock every year.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming

For the most part I was happy with the H&R deluxe. I was not happy with the section that dealt with IRA's. My husband and I both have our own IRA's and different circumstances with how we saved. I had contributions to my private IRA that were after tax because I was not eligible through work. Making them after tax and nondeductible. He did not. The IRA worksheets were confusing and did not work on them one at a time. It wanted to put my nondeductible on with his worksheet. He had a conversion last year from a traditional IRA to a Roth and so it was trying to calculate the tax owed. I think that worksheet could be better and less confusing and keeping them separate and worked on one at a time would be helpful.

Cons: Hard to prepare
