Glitch made nunerous attempts to send in online get rejected including the initial filing for extension to avoid paying late so ended up having to mail in a day late

I bought the deluxe plus state software. With regards for functionality, it is good, but the software is missing a form that I need in order to electronically file my state return. Therefore, I had to print and mail my state return. Not only is this burdensome, but it's also a time waster and additional cost. I found a competitor who supplies the firm so I won't be going back to H&R. You've lost me!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The portion of the program dealing with IRA Required Minimum Distribution got so screwed up, with no way back out, that I need to delete the file itself, start the whole form all over again, and then finally figure out how to tell the system that I received a distribution exactly equal to the RMD, and that there was no penalty involved. In addition, the 1040 payment process must have been developed by someone who never actually had to use the payment process. For something that should have been a very basic transaction, it turned into what was one of the most confusing payment processes I've ever gone through. A 2-star rating is being generous. Will probably switch to a new vendor next year.

I have used your program for years on my MacBook Pro - and have always gotten along well with it. The only problem is when I try to do the federal update. The update window that pops up never works - it just puts me in a continuous loop never getting anywhere. Only by going to your website and doing a manual update am I able to get the current federal information. This has happened the last couple years and I always waste 30 minutes trying to remember the work around. Please fix this issue or at least give me a link to the manual update site.

Good software however there are areas that need improvement. For example, I can not e-file NJ Non-resident return because my investment income is negative, even though I do not assign any of investment gain/loss to NJ. Also, the software does not give me right option for standard/itemized deduction in NY tax return until the review stage.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
