I used H&R block tax tool again this year and it worked beautifully. Appears that they have updated the application and it works much better, i.e. less cryptic. For example when you have an error the software leads you to the section of your errors and lets you correct them on the page that lead you to the error. That makes the software much easier this year.

I’ve used H&R Block software for years and have been satisfied for the most part with the software. However for the last couple of years I’ve been unable to download financial data from Merrill Lynch which forces me to manually enter it. Very time consuming!
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

Be prepared in NY

I have always used H&R Block software to prepare my taxes, ever since I was trained by them and worked for them as a tax professional. This year, 2026, there is an error in the NY software - the amount of tax on my taxable income wasn't correct, creating an error in the return. I am receiving less of a refund than Block showed I would get.
