I have been using HR block software for past 4 years and this time the software would not cooperate with downloading electronic W-2 and 1099 forms. Had to log all the data manually
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Your software continues to add the total AGI to the AGI earned in New Jersey, when the NJ total is a portion of the total. It GROSSLY overstates the taxes due. I have to override it , preventing efile.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

Not perfect, but powerful benefits that save money

Been using the software reliably for decades for both federal and 2 states. Rarely a problem and saves me a lot of money with a person. Because I file in two states (live in one, work in the other), I did have to use AI to answer a couple items that the software doesn't advise on for claiming medical deductions. Even if you don't hit the 7.5% of AGI threshold for federal medical deductions, you can use this information on the state taxes, but the software doesn't recognize it. So when doing federal taxes and you already know you won't hit the threshold, you might avoid the effort to input the information which is a mistake when getting to the states. The state will pull that info and take care of it for you unless not there, so I got lucky. There was another issue between entering data between the states that is dependent on claiming itemized vs. standard state deductions. The software doesn't anticipate that issue when doing the work state before the resident state, so AI had to advise that I might have to back it out of the first state depending on the claim on the second state. Another potential I gotcha. Otherwise - I really do rely and benefit from it.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

Some of the interviews were confusing to me and I had to reach out to HRB's help team. The help team was slow to respond. Both times they took more than the quoted 5 days. I did end up getting my issues resolved. I've been using HRB product for many years and never in the past had this many issues and delays.

This year's version had a serious issue dealing with VPNs and/or Antivirus. There were NO notifications recommending that vpns and antivirus be disabled while using the product. After dealing with program hangup from the very start, the issue reached a climax when I went to file my state tax and found myself in an endless loop. The issue was not resolved until Tier 2 told me that I needed to disable my VPN and Antivirus software.
End users should NOT have to be their system security at risk just to be able to use your software. By the way, I have NOT had this issue any of the previous years I have used your software.
