Easy to use and a Good Value

Installed it using the CD I received from HRB in the mail. The program is straight forward . It met my needs and was a good value.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

Some provisions of the new tax law were not clear.

I was disappointed that the software was not fully updated to deal with the changes generated by the tax reform act. An example: the old mileage calculations were still active and part of the interview. After much searching, I learned that the mileage deduction had been disallowed except for a few occupations. That fact should have been prominently stated at the beginning of data entry without requiring all of the entry under the old calculation only to find that it did not provide a tax reduction.
Also, my e-file was again rejected by the IRS due to the fact that the 2017 AGI of my spouse did not match what the IRS had on file. I never reported an AGI for my spouse in 2017; the joint AGI of 2017 was provided by the software and it did agree with what was reported to the IRS in 2017. However, the rejection could not be reversed. This is a continually recurring problem with my e-filings. For a number of consecutive years, the IRS has rejected them forcing me to submit my return on paper every year.

Helpful tool

I have used TaxCut for many years and almost always find it easy and fun to use. The only thing with which I have an issue is that it doesn't really have a "close" feature in the MAC version. I manage to store it and recall it but would enjoy the addition of this little features. I always recommend this application.

Good product with a few exceptions

I like the product, but there are a few improvements I'd like t see. Printing should create a .pdf right away instead of forcing you to load a special app to be able to print parts of the return. without the app you are forced to print everything. there is a bug in the program for those who have a refund from the state of property taxes. the refund is put in "Other income" and taxable at the federal level, but is also put into "Other income" and taxable at the state level. when you try to manually override to fix the problem, the program will not allow you to e-file the state return.

I have used this program year after year. I hope you don't change the way it is laid out and/or formatted because I've got it so well memorized I can danged near use it blindfolded. One thing I wish H&R Block would do is help make using Depreciation a little more helpful, like telling you "you can't do that!" or "you used 200% declining balance last year . . . you can't switch now to 200% declining balance. While working on the new tax form, the program may select 200% on its own, and if I go back and check last year's, I will see that I used 150%. A lot of going back and forth. I think it should just carry it over to the next year and then you would know if you were purposefully changing the status. Not all of us are skilled in this one area, and I've been doing taxes for over 50 years. Anything to help make depreciation a more accurate process would be appreciated.

Too hard to find things

The tax code is outrageously complex, so I understand it may be hard to write software to complete it, but H&R could be a lot clearer. Where do I enter my IRAs? Could find the form (8606), but won't let me enter any data there at all. And, the program can't seem to deal with the fact my wife has an IRA, too. Program has no problem with some complex issues, then can't tell you where to find IRA.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Hard to prepare
