I've used the download version of HR Block tax software for years. It has always covered all of my specific tax situations, and is structured in a way that is easy to use. Given the unnecessary complexity of the US Tax code, the price of the software is reasonable, and I find it gives me good value for what I pay. It would cost many hundreds of dollars more to have my taxes done by an accountant. This software is the only reason I keep windows installed on my dual-boot computer, my only lament is that it is not available for Linux, but I certainly understand why (too small a user base, too many versions of Linux).
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast

I bought this software in Feb and it is a good program. I wish the text font size could have been increased to size 12 from the 8 used.

Useful and filed my returns but needs improvement

Have been filing with H&R Block several years now and this years seems the software is NOT as functionally useful as in previous years.
Examples: I will go to show form - whether the mini version or the whole form, if I click on any of the gray fields that the software filled in, I get as expected the OVERRIDE or cancel. I wanted to see where the software arrived at the particular number, you need to use override (okay I get it), but when looking for where the number comes from it tells me the 'entry is not carried here from another form' which makes no sense as it came from somewhere. Had this happen nearly a dozen times both federal and state. What I do like about this software is that it easily downloaded ALL my brokerage statement.

Uploaded 1099's were not fully copied into HR BLOCK SOFTWARE, AND, the software did not remind me to get a new FEDTAX ID and record that in the 1040.

Buggy!

We’ve used this software for many years and every year it gets worse. Imported 1099 data sometimes fills in wrong numbers and even wrong text (company names, etc). Sometimes data we entered didn’t save or was corrupted. You can’t trust it and have to double check everything. We finally got through it; passed all the checks and eFiled only to be REJECTED by the IRS due to a missing form! NEVER AGAIN! Next year we will have our returns prepared by a tax service. We’ve waisted WAY TOO much time screwing around with this buggy software.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

terrible efile experience

When filing, the program took me all the way through the efile process including the payment fee for efille of my state return. The application then said that it had to update the software! Update was processed and then started through the efile process yet again. When it came to the point of entering debit card information AGAIN, I stopped and checked my bank account and there already was the transaction fee for the efile process I had already done. Why did the software not required the update PRIOR to start any of the filing process?
