I've used this producrt for the last 6 years. It guides me through the many questions and even more blanks that form my taxes. Once in awhile I don't understand the question I'm asked to answer and trying to understand what the IRS wants can be a challenge, but on whole I'm happy with the program and plan to use it next year.

Colo State had usability issues and errors

VERY terrible!!! It hung with errors on 104AD form at verify data check (3 errors) wanting a deceased SS#s even though I indicated that I WAS NOT!! a beneficiary of deceased income.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've been using the H&R Block Tax Cut software for over 15 years. It's fairly consist and the UI is clean.
However, regarding the 2025 software and going forward I didn't like that I was asked to input the amount of overtime I do twice. Once in the beginning and once towards the end when the software brought up the One Big Beautiful Bill. I also wasn't a fan of putting it in as the example given wasn't useful. I work for a federal agency but we don't make time in a half for overtime, we make double. A simple conversion built into the software for specific overtime would've been helpful.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast

I buy H&R Block software every year and am pleased to use it, makes everything pretty simple and lots of explanations. I also like having the "no audit risk" at the end when the software takes a look at what I entered and if I need look and adjust anything I might have missed.

Generally OK, but does not completely handle accrued discount on bonds with insufficient instructions and incorrectly calculates and reports amortized bond premiums if you have ABP on different types of bonds (eg, regular, US treasury and tax exempt all included on the same 1099.) Real pain to do work-arounds to get the calculations correct on tax forms - both federal and state- since incorrect amounts are also carried forward to the state return.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare

H&R Block is a fantastic software for anyone to complete their taxes. It is very simple and user friendly for any novice tax preparer. It keeps all documents organzed, it can walk anyone thru the entire process, and the checking system that is.built in will alleviate any errors.

User-friendly, easy to undertand, logical sequence.. Displays tax owed or refund as you fill in the info rather than "shocking" you at the end.
