Every year I rely on the Block software to do my tax returns, and it has never disappointed me. It's fast and easy, and tells me when I need to make a decision about how to file or supply more info. My record-keeping system is nothing special. During the year I toss income and expense documents into separate file folders, adding end-of-year forms as they come in. On the day I do my taxes, it takes longer to organize the paper into categories than it does to do the return on Block! Once everything is sorted, I fire up the program, enter the data, and e-file the returns. I can even download the data directly from some financial institutions into my return, which saves time and frustration.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

As usual, H&R Block software stepped me thru the logical process and helped me complete my return quickly and easily, as it has for the past 7 years. However, somehow the software "reasoned" that I wanted to file an extension, when I answered no such question. I was finally able to remove the request for an extension, but I'm not even sure how. It all occurred in the section relating to excess investment contributions. This was a possible bug in the software. Also, I suffered a capital gains loss several years ago and have been given a $3,000 loss benefit for the past several years. I still had about $7K remaining of that capital loss. However, this year the software permitted me to adjust only $1,028 vice the normal $3K. I checked the form itself, but could not comprehend the potential discrepancy. Nor did the software provide an explanation. I chalked it up to probable tax law changes. Since I received a sizable refund, I wasn't overly concerned.

This was my first time filing my own return since we bought our first home over 45 years ago... wish I had tried this sooner!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast
Cons: Time consuming

It took a little time to go completely through it. Had to go back to some sections seveal times. Also I put in something as a gain but it subtracted it on the 1040.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

very good product but no reason for the price to remain so high for a simple 1040. NO reason. Most of us are brand loyal and do not want to do a learning curve to another type of program but will next yr if the price does not come down.
Cons: Time consuming
