I have been using H & R Block's Deluxe Tax Software since 2009. I have never had any issues with either using the software or the filed returns with the IRS. The program is easy to use and the interview guides you thru filling out your return. It allows you to create a new tax return by importing data from last year's return. The import feature for 1099's is also very handy. I've had simple returns as well as complex returns; the program handled both returns without any issues.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

I have used HRB for years and this is the first time I had trouble updating. I get messages that say I can’t open my filed tax return, not online or from my saved location, because “My state return is not updated”. When I try to update the software goes back to where I started. Separately, I also got an error message 1004 and had the same circular update experience. Fortunately, was able to submit both returns, but my federal may not be updated and I was able to finish the state return before the update message kept blocking me. I cannot check the status of either the state or federal return because of the update blocks. I sent feedback online to HRB and got no response yet.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
