I have used this software for years and believe it to be more thorough than other products on the market. This year it felt very glitchy. There were several things that it brought up that were not correct (like insisting that there was a 1099-R involved with my young daughter's return) and made me go through a series of questions that I couldn't actually answer. Quite a few times, when hitting a "next" button, it just froze up and the only way I could continue was to close it and reopen it. I have never had these problems in the past, so I cannot give it 5 stars because of the frustration that it caused me.

Be prepared in NY

I have always used H&R Block software to prepare my taxes, ever since I was trained by them and worked for them as a tax professional. This year, 2026, there is an error in the NY software - the amount of tax on my taxable income wasn't correct, creating an error in the return. I am receiving less of a refund than Block showed I would get.

I’ve used H&R Block software for years and have been satisfied for the most part with the software. However for the last couple of years I’ve been unable to download financial data from Merrill Lynch which forces me to manually enter it. Very time consuming!
