It does the job pretty well. This is around the 15th straight year I've used it, and the look-and-feel hasn't changed much. Main quibble is that in many places the font sizes are too small and need to be enlarged one size. Some of the fonts are ridiculously small considering all the blank space available. Remember it's a lot of older folks using this software, and a little font-size increase helps a lot with older eyes.

I've used HR Block software since it was Tax Cut and have usually been very pleased until this year. First, this year your software had some serious problem with data floating among fields. Until the last update (late February) I had to constantly check and correct data. After calling your Tech folk, we decided to reload the software -- It didn't help. The earlier update did help some, but only after the late February update did the problem disappear.
Second, I was shocked to find one had to pay extra for electronically submitting the state return. I'm not sure when that change occurred (while in Alabama I filed state tax on the state's website), but in previous years electronic submission was included in the state software price. Also, though I may have missed it, the packaging and ads did not inform me that the additional fee would be necessary.
Third, the state software was not posted on your website. Only after calling the state taxation technical folk and following up with your technical folk did I learn that correct, the state program was not posted for download but would be emailed to me. Once received, the state program was not particularly helpful. The interview was not clear and some screens were quite misleading. It took several hours of reading the Instructions, filling in the printed form, and then going back to the interview to try to correct entries by ignoring the screen prompts before my data was correctly input.

Have used H&R Block tax software and its predecessor Taxcut for more than two decades and simplifies the most complex topics. Its transfer of the previous year's essential tax info to the current year facilitates tax preparation. It also seamlessly downloads tax documents from financial institutions and enters data into requisite forms. All in all a trusted and cost-effective software.
