No arithmetic errors but could use improvement. Poor jargon filled explanations. Still as much of a black box as the IRS forms. Can't handle common situations such as in-software computation of annualized state tax. Forces use of paper return. Sometimes misses essential forms without identifying what is missing and notifying the person entering data. Could be clearer when a spouse fills out the interview questions. You have both first names - if you were write the names rather than "You" and "Spouse" there would be less room for error. Bottom line: better than paper forms as you don't have to worry about computation errors, but a long way from being a good tool for someone who does taxes once a year.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Program

I have been filing electronically for about ten years and I first discovered H & R Block in 2014. I have been using H & R Block ever since, the program is straightforward and easy to use. It walks you through each form step by step and does all the calculations for you. A big plus is that it's less expensive than the "other guys" and is just as easy to use, if not easier.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

Missed the mark when handling QBI

When I tried to compute my Qualified Business Income (deduction), H&RB software tells me that I'll have to handle it myself, obtain Form 8995 and fill it out. In 2018, the QBI was handled correctly (I believe). I had self employment income and a K-1 in both 2018 and 2019 but in 2019 H&RB would not compute the QBI leaving me to do it. On top of that, when I went to e-file, I was told that I couldn't e-file because there was a form that was manually filled out! A colleague of mine ran into the same problem. He ended up purchasing Turbo Tax to compute his QBI.
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Your software should send tax return communications to both spouses when a joint tax return is filed. Both spouses should be made aware of all updates and the filing status.

I've been using H&R Block tax software to do my taxes for approximately 40 years and have always received the best results. It's actually like sitting in front of a tax accountant, answer their questions and the software telling you what is the best way to file different aspects of your return. If you don't understand something being asked, you click on the "i" icon to find out further explanation of what's being asked.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast

I've used H&R tax software for years and it has gotten easier each year. Step by step it seems very complete and instills confidence that the job has been done right.
