For many years, I have been a fan, but now, not so much. I have been trying to get the Earned Income Credit for my daughter. She qualifies for the EIC, but the software keeps saying that she doesn't (for illogical reasons) Also, the search function is extremely weak. You get no results when you search on words like "Enhanced Senior Discount" or "tips", even though these are important new topics for tax year 2025.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund

I have used the software for probably eight to ten years after using a competing brand before that. The federal portion has generally been A+, I’ve had no problems at all. The state software has been quirky in one section involving state pensions. Otherwise, it has functioned well.

I would rather speak to a live expert advisor not automated. even a chat automated is not the same. for the 1st time in years if using H&R bkock i wanted to speak to a real person, dat I believe can help.

There were a few issues that I was not certain about, but the software helped me out. I had a new heat pumped installed and was not sure how to apply for the energy credit.
Pros: Maximizes refund

Most of the program is very simple to fill out. My only problem was how they treated the RMD of IRA.s The sections that questioned accumulated distribution. I did not have any. It was not clear at all and very confusing. There was no way to indicate that you paid the correct amount of taxes on the RMD.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Been using H&R Block tax program for years. Buy it every year online. Never had any issue with my returns. Easy to use and accurate. Has answers c for all of your questions.
