i have used this for many years with good results. this year i just got a notice my refund or due amount is not is not correct because i did not send copies of 1099s. since i filed by computer i never had to send 1099 before. i am totally confused. will h&r help.

problems with state filing

I have the desktop version and have used this for 10+ years. The software works well for Federal e-filing. It does not allow e-filing of State returns. There is a software bug that reults in the state e-filed return being rejected. The only way to file state returns is for printing and filing the state return on paper -which is very cumbersome and outdated. It means printing out 40+ pages since the State needs the federal return too. The purpose of the software is to e-file both Federal and State returns - which this does not satisfy
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The software worked ok until I got to the bank info for the state. Somewhere between entering the account number and the printing the software dropped the first digit. The account number was checked by my spouse. The printout showed that the first number was dropped. Did not see the mistake until I received a check from the Minnesota.
Federal: Same problem dropped first number. In this case the printout converted all the numbers to xxxx's for account and routing. Checked the software and it showed the first number had been dropped but the rest of the number was there. The federal rejected my payment due and sent me letter saying I needed an alternate way of paying and that I may also need to pay a penalty. Who is liable for the penalty if there is one?
