I prepared tax return for my son and his wife who live in CA. I looked to see if married filing separately would save them taxes. I completed Form 8958 but that form does not carry forward to the 1040. Also I live in NY and when I complete the information background on the Form 1040 I put that I am a NYC resident but that doesn't carry over to the NY State return.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

I have purchased H&R Block Deluxe software for 5 years.
The rating of 3 stars is because the software doesn't handle well Roth conversions.
The software asks the customer if they want the IRS to calculate a potential underpayment penalty instead of the customer preparing Form 2210 and annualizing the withholding and estimated tax payments. The IRS is under no obligation to make its calculations in the best interest of the taxpayer. The question posed by the H7R Block software should never be asked!
