NEEDS WORK, TOOK A WEEK TO TRY AND FILE.

REJECTED MY RETURN 8 TIMES. KEPT SAYING MY SS NUMBER WAS FOR A DECEASED PERSON. I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER AND STILL WAS REJECTED. CALLED AND GOT A REFUND BUT NOT HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PROGRAM. BEEN USING FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've been using H&R Block Deluxe for several years. I like it. However, using the print button under the filing menu results in way too much pages being printed, and they are one sided at that. I prefer to open the saved .PDF file and print only the pages that I really want.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

The product is easy to use and follow through each step.
I was disappointed and frustrated when I came to the recovery rebate credit. I needed to check the tax laws and discover that I was not able to receive the recovery rebate because my AGI in 2019 was over $160,00. I had to enter false information on the form so the program would not automatically give me a $2,800. credit to my tax return. I had to check Yes I received a payment of $2,800. even thou I did not receive one.
Did I make the right discission? will my submission to Federal be OK?

I have used HR Block Deluxe and TaxCut prior to the name change. I find it easy to use, the Interview is straightforward, and it meets my needs at a lower price than TurboTax. There are a few annoying issues, e.g. link to Learn about a Federal Update only takes you to the generic HR Block homepage not the update info; Data Verifications won't go away no matter how I try to verify them. Also, it would be super helpful to offer a What If sandbox which would take summary entries and allow quick change to see what the impact would be. I do this manually by creating a copy called What It and make the changes in the program entries in order to estimate my next year taxes although realizing the tax rates last year's.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This product is alright if you already know what you are doing and what to answer an what the questions mean, and if your tax situation is relatively common, but it doesn't really explain anything or help you figure anything out. Does anybody remember Turbo Tax when it first came out, before Intuit bought it? It used to really advise you and lead you through the process like a human would, giving you information you need to understand what the tax forms were asking for rather than just showing the questions on the screen. There were even embedded videos explaining things. The use of video was/is not important, it's the inclusion of information to help you interpret the questions in the tax process and decide how to answer. None of the tax programs do this anymore AFAIK, including Turbo Tax. They are just electronic versions of the tax forms, presenting questions and collecting answers, possibly guiding you a bit and not making you read all the questions, but generally not really helping you make decisions or understand what is being asked.
Pros: Easy to prepare

I expected much better - 2 issues

Problem #1: I wanted to buy I-Bonds with my refund. Loaded and filled form 8888. Bond purchase showed up on final summary. BUT on checking final forms before e-filing the box for 8888 was not checked and 8888 was not included in the forms to be sent. Reloaded form 8888 and tried again with same result. Loaded 8888 again this time fiddled with the deposit info / bank routing / which produced a warning stating that it was not compatible with my use of form 8888. I deleted bank routing and the return was finely filled correctly. Instructions or at least an earlier error warning would have saved an hour.
Problem #2. Now my e-filed return is rejected in 5 minutes. Message says check return for errors. Looked at all of the many forms with no identified errors. (another hour) Identifying the error in the rejection message would seem appropriate. Now its off to USPS to mail it and the state return.

Worked Very Well

I was initially concerned because I had always used the CD version in previous years but the software downloaded and loaded quickly and the program worked smoothly.
Pros: Maximizes refund
