Easy to use. I like to make copies of the submitted tax return, and do 'What If?' - make adjustments to various figures and see how the outcome changes.... One thing I DON'T like is entering account numbers for the Banks/Credit Unions when entering 1099-INT, this information does not show up on the 1040. What gives?
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

It caused my so much pain when the Capital Gain transactions must be verified (edit) one by one. I imported the 1099-B from my brokerage account for my capital gains and the short term gains alone have more than 850 lines to go through and it took me over 14 hours just sitting there clicking through one at a time. This is so stupid. There must be an option for the user to verify ALL lines at once.

Best thing I ever did taxwise about 25 years ago. It's easy to use and especially because the previous year's info can automatically be transferred to the current year process saving a great deal of data entry and improving accuracy.

Gets the job done, but still has major issues

Doing it with a computer software package, the one thing one can expect, is that the process/math items are done correctly and conveniently by the software. Not the case for H&R Deluxe - as it doesn't make the job easier for the user. Case in point - two areas where my return caused a bunch of additional work at the 'submit to the IRS' end step. Fixing issues. Donations - it is required that a street address for the charity MUST be filled in - well if that is the case - why not enforce that at the time of data entry? Losses from theft - if you use the safe harbor method, the IRS apparently requires the return be MAILED IN - so why not make that clear at time of the software asking me for losses? I could choose not to file for the loss this year, or use an alternate method to be able to efile? AGI from pior return year to 'sign' - this is part of the IRS efile, and here the IRS and H&R (and I suspect all software) fumbled the ball. The question is ambiguous - because it doesn't state precisely what is being asked for (and the IRS website also does't specify what is expected precisely). The input request is for the prior year AGI. However, if you filed an amendment to the prior return then your actual final AGI will possibly be different than the AGI on your initial 1040 filing - so what does H&R and the IRS want? Do they want your final prior year AGI ? Or do they want the prior year AGI you submitted on the initial 1040 filing? They are not always the same, and you have to guess.

I'm a very senior citizen. For years and years, I resisted buying software to do my taxes because I was determined that as an educated adult, I was smart enough to do them on my own. Three years ago, my son convinced me to buy H&R Block. After that first year, I was a total believer in this excellent product, and I don't know why it took me so long to try it.

Overall the software is quite good, however, when I searched the help database for some information on subjects I was questioning it did not bring back relevant results. Ultimately, I got help via the chat function or by calling though. So all good!
Pros: Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
