I have used this software for over 10 years. Probably closer to 15. This year I had problems with the software that I have not had in the past. Plus my state and and school filings were rejected even though Block said nothing was wrong when I filed. After the rejection, wanted me to fix something that I could not so had to paper file. Up through my 2023 return, I would have given it 5 stars.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Fine for basic filing. Not good for special cases

The basics are covered well but corner situations are not handled well. I have passive foreign income and had to do my own research to enter the values in the correct forms. This has happened in the past with other cases for me too.

My only issue was that the was no Federal Direct Debit Worksheet created as there was in past years (2021 tax year). This worksheet gives positive feedback that a debit was scheduled, and provide documentation should a problem arise. Instead the form 1040-V was produced, which implies a check will be sent to the IRS to accompany form 1040-V. Please restore the Direct Debit Worksheet and eliminate the form 1040-V.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

I've been using H&R block since intuit got greedy and charged more for their deluxe software. Haven't been disappointed except H&R typically doesn't have all the electronic 1099 imports of most banks and brokerage houses. This year however they did not have a certain WV state form (MV01) tax credit so I had to file and mail.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
Cons: Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!
