I've used your program probably a dozen + years, and it's still the best on the market (done my own taxes for 63 years) . . BUT, you still need to improve the interview clarity and "separation of issues" in at least two areas . . 1. the gas/oil drilling royalty paid to a property owner who has leased the drilling rights to a speculator and only receives a small "owner's share" - that interview and choices for recording are confusing and cumbersome, and can yield incorrect results . . 2. On a simple / normal IRA Required Minimum Distribution that interview and choices are also confusing and unclear, because you have tried to "short cut" two separate issues by combining the process, when one has no relevance to most people, and that can lead to disastrously incorrect results - separate the two, no "window" issue, just "did you take your correct RMD, how much?" . . Case closed!
Pros: Easy to prepare

I use this software every year. It works. Some parts can be confusing and it's not easy to go back into the return to a specific spot to update. Sometimes you have to wade through whole sections to find the part that needs work. As an example, I put in two values for personal property tax as place holders since I did not have the exact values. Going back in it takes a couple of minutes to navigate to the part where those values are to update. Not terrible but there could be an easier way to get right to what you need to find.
Another thing, it always hits the same thing in a dependents data. Every year. I have to ignore it because it is a spurious alert.
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!

Federal portion of program worked fine. State portion (MI) did not work. It taxed my retirement benefits which are not taxable in Michigan. I called and explained the problem in February but when I checked in April nothing had changed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've been using H&R Block for several years now and its fairly easy to use. This year I had trouble inputing the RMD from my IRA because the software wasn't very clear on how to handle it. I eventually figured it out, though.

Product works; although if you think about it, software for filing taxes should be free. The pros: the 'interview' approach (as opposed to reading through instructions, and filling forms line-by-line) makes it so most anyone can file their own taxes. Cons: program update doesn't work properly on macs - very annoying for a mature product.
