I've used this H&R Block Deluxe Federal and State software for more than a decade. This year, I had several instances that disappointed me significantly. The software simply didn't point me in the direction I needed. Also, one thing that I was looking for was some kind of reference to items pertaining to my USAF retirement income (which supposedly is not taxed in Arkansas).
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

The product is very good at entering financial forms.and recording data. The ability to stop and save at any point makes taking a break simple and stress free.
There are a few instances where information requested requires some head scratching as to what exactly is being asked. But looking at the original form to see the context helps clear things up.
Finally, the programs ability to import old return information and online forms saves a lot of tedious entry typing.

I have been using Block since it was Tax Cut and every once in a while something unexplainable happens but I no longer call for help. For example: this year, I finished my son's NJ return which included a credit for taxes paid to NY. When I started my cousin's return, the credit credit from my son's return apeared on my cousin's return. My cousin never worked in NY. Go figure!

It worked again and I was pleased. The only problem I had was getting the correct forms to print out for my records. I always have a lot of extra forms printed out that I have to throw away.

Poor tax planning

Return preparation process is good but next year tax planning process is very poor. For example: it does not import previous year data for use as a baseline for estimation or revision and does not include various income types that require different handling such as Social Security income, retirement distributions, dividends, short and long term capital gains, etc.
