Software version seems better than on line version- found other savings. The on line version easily imported W2 & 1099R but everything else had to be manually entered in software.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
Cons: Hard to import documents

I have used the HRBlock download tax software for more than 10 years and it has worked great for me. The system responds quickly to starting the software for a new return or updates to a return in work. The system also quickly installs software updates when they are required.
My negative comment about the block tax software involves how to contact block if a error is suspected in their tax software. I found what appear to be an error in the 2024 software but there was no way to report the issue to block.

Nickel and Dimes You to Death--Insult to Injury!

Nickel-and-diming from start to finish. Between the software, state versions, and e-filing, I paid more than my total refund. Absurdly expensive for something that simply helps meet a legal obligation for working people.
Also, it suggested I run my state return two ways to compare—but didn’t save the first attempt or provide a side-by-side comparison. When I redid the first, it wiped the second. Frustrating and poorly designed.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Got strange results importing from Schwab and Fidelity. Imported twice, I figured it out. The 2210 form is a nightmare! This happened in 2022 and 2023 also. Dinged by the IRS for a penalty because of a wrong box checked. I estimate taxes. The quarterly income varies. IRS has strange definition of a quarterly. The program needs some work. Wasted many hours getting straightened out. Bad feeling about 2024. My wife said I should switch.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
