Great program as always. I've been using this software (with new versions each year, of course), for decades. Worked as expected. (Only problem was getting State to download. Online Chat fixed it for me.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I used TurboTax for many years. Last year I purchased their state form as an addition (it used to be included) but found out that due to a form (K1) I used I was unable to file. I contacted TT and they refused to do anything about it. Never again.
It's absurd that these products are necessary for average taxpayers. Companies like H&R actively oppose efforts by the government to simplify tax preparation. That said, this program does the job reasonably well. It's not as smooth and polished as the other big one but maybe the company is less objectionable. Maybe. It's also absurd that you have to pay for each state e-file. It's insult upon insult.
I have relied on H&R Block tax software to help me do my taxes for both my Federal and State for years. I find it helpful, logical and easy to use. I will say that my taxes are quite simple. I have no capital gains or dividends to report, I do not operate a business, and I own no partnership shares. I take the Standard Deduction. The one issue that I have with the software is the way calculations for the next year’s estimated taxes are handled. The questions the software asks are confusing. Specifically, they ask for the amount of withholding already deducted, but if I enter that number, the program calculates incorrect estimated tax payments. Every year, I find that I have to calculate my estimated tax payments manually and then adjust the information on the software forms in order to get accurately calculated estimated tax installments.
